Expressing ideas of place, provenance and the landscape have always been integral to my practice. What began as a poetic notion of ‘reflecting sky into wood’ has become a vocation. I source the parts of a felled tree, the branches and the twisting boughs, that are overlooked and undervalued. I collect discarded fragments of architecture, metal, stone, sea worn timber and sustainably felled green English hardwoods from woodlands around London and the south east. Through splitting open these materials I reveal a hidden beauty which I reflect back and forward through meticulously cut mirrors. In combining manmade and natural materials and siting these objects, both inside and outside, I generate tangible experiences between the viewer, object and the environment.
Following an MA in constructed textiles from the RCA in 2008 I created my first Mirror Tapestry©. More than a decade on these distinctive works have become a signature of the studio and, alongside the range of tableware and Mirror based installations, have found their way into residential, commercial and exterior spaces worldwide.
The studio welcomes commissions, collaborations and conversations. Do get in touch to see how I can bring your project to life.
